Þuríður Harpa Sigurðardóttir was elected chairwoman of Sjálfsbjörg at the 2024 national conference. She was chairwoman of ÖBÍ rights organization from October 2017 to October 2023.

Jón Heiðar was elected chairman at the 2025 National Congress. He has extensive experience in the work of Sjálfsbjörg and other issues of interest to people with disabilities. He has been on the board of Sjálfsbjörg in Akureyri and the surrounding area, the Akur Sports Association and various other committees for many years.
