Psychological services
Sjálfsbjörg offers its members free support interviews (on-site or remote) at the Communication Center. Interviews are available for psychotherapy, social work, family therapy, education and mediation.

The interviews are available to members of Sjálfsbjörg. To become a member, you can contact one of Sjálfsbjörg's member associations, which are located throughout Iceland. Information about the member associations can be found at here

Alda Dís Arnardóttir, psychologist

Alda has experience in providing treatment for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, low self-esteem, alcohol problems, and psychological distress following physical illness. In addition, Alda has experience in providing psychological support to families of individuals with dementia.
Alda Dís graduated with a BA in Psychology from Reykjavík University in 2021 and an MSc in Clinical Psychology from Reykjavík University in 2024, she received her psychologist's license the same year. Alda emphasizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in her treatment as a psychologist. During her studies, she gained diverse experience under the supervision of experienced psychologists and attended internships at the City of Reykjavík, Reykjavík City, Reykjavík University Hospital, and the Trauma Team at Landspítali. She received supervision in teaching the course "Parent-centered CBT" at the Reykjavík East Center, which is a course for parents of children aged 5-12 who show symptoms of anxiety. In her master's thesis, Alda investigated the experiences of victims of sexual violence of opening up about the violence on social media. She then examined, among other things, what led to the decision to speak out in that way and what consequences that decision had for the victims.
In addition to her work at the Communication Center, Alda works in the psychological services of the online departments of Landspítali á Landakot, where she provides, among other things,
Psychological support for individuals with dementia and their families.
Alda also has a great interest in the health and welfare of children and is also the choir director of the Guðríður Church Children's Choir.
Elín Broddadóttir, psychologist

Elín graduated with a BS in Psychology from the University of Iceland in 2016, an MSc in Clinical Psychology from Reykjavík University in 2024, and subsequently received her professional license as a clinical psychologist. Elín focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and treats issues such as anxiety, depression, persistent physical symptoms, low self-esteem, and trauma, as well as other emotional problems. During her studies, she gained diverse experience in diagnostic and therapeutic work with both adolescents and adults. She did internships at the Capital Region Health Care System, the Children's Mental Health Center, and the Psychosis and Community Psychiatry Team at Landspítali.
Her master's thesis involved evaluating the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy in a group setting for persistent physical symptoms, and she still works in research alongside her work at the Communication Center. In recent years, Elín has worked in research, but she has also completed a master's degree in social sciences with an emphasis on public health and global health. Elín has a strong interest in children's health and well-being and has worked for a long time in youth work with children and adolescents of all ages.
